European Social Fund

 


The European Social Fund (ESF) was set up to improve employment opportunities in the European Union and so help raise standards of living. It aims to assist people fulfill their potential by giving them better skills and better job prospects.

The Sub Regional Unit has a strong record of achievement in delivering ESF programmes and has been successful in securing additional funding to support Connexions Services in South London through to 2011.
 

Our innovative and flexible projects are delivered with partner organisation across South London and involve the following:  

 


Destination Education Employment and Training (1)

Targets Year 11 students at risk of becoming NEET, delivering a programme of Information, Advice and Guidance and individual support to enable transition into further learning or training at the end of the Year.  Students will also be offered the opportunity to attend a college taster day.  Delivery takes place in a range of schools across Bromley, Merton and Croydon and is delivered by a team of Project Workers employed by CfBT/Include.  The project aims to target 296 students, of which 187 will progress to further education or training, and a further 30 beneficiaries will benefit from an in-depth job search programme.

 


Destination Education Employment and Training (2)

Delivered in Sutton and Kingston and aims to target a total of 80 young people so that they can progress into further education, training or employment.   Support for the young person continues beyond the end of the structured programme up to 26 weeks.

 


Staying the Course

This project targets Year 12 students at college who are at risk of dropping out of their course . It aims to deliver a programme of individualised support and non-accredited learning to ensure that they complete their chosen course. Delivery takes place in Bromley (Charles Darwin) and Croydon (John Ruskin).

 


Choice Guarantee

Choice Guarantee is a Pan-London project that aims to provide a cutting edge progression framework through the development of the CHOICE e-prospectus, CEG tools and the directory to help equip young people to improve their life options via better awareness of local & London options.  The project aims to support 400 young people who are currently not involved in education, training or employment in South London to achieve a forward plan and an intended destination through using CHOICE .   Another aspect of this project aims to support 400 young people at risk of becoming NEET aged 14-19 in South London to be matched with suitable learning or employment opportunities through their involvement in individual Personal Adviser-led guidance sessions, using Choice as a tool for self-assessment, career exploration and forward planning evidenced through an intended destination.
