News - Leonardo Project
The visits were a week long and the program of activities was organised by the hosting partners with input from the Personal Advisers themselves as to what areas they were specifically interested in. During the most recent round of visits which took part 22-27th March we sent a group of seven Personal Advisers, two visiting Malmo in Sweden and five going to Copenhagen in Denmark.
The Personal Advisers who took part in this cross cultural learning experience made the following comments:
“This was such a beneficial opportunity that exceeded all expectations, so I would like to sincerely thank all parties involved! It truly was a wondrous learning experience. Our flexible itinerary allowed time for real dialogue with workers, school principles, careers advisers and young people and meant our every question and query was answered. This allowed for a real depth of understanding of systems and philosophies” Kara Hodgson PA Richmond.
"The week supplied many opportunities to socialize with colleagues from the UK and Denmark and provided a forum to network and gain better knowledge and understanding of services. Visiting the youth projects in Malmo and training schools in Copenhagen presented the work that was being achieved with the young people in the area. These environments also allowed us to speak to the young people directly and get their opinion and feedback on the work being done" Philip Delderfield, HAP <25 Personal Adviser, Croydon
"During my stay in Malmo I was particularly impressed with the flexible approach towards work experience opportunities for young people. This was evident in both the school work experience program" Donna Darby, Personal Adviser CYDT Croydon.
Julian Saunders, Commissioning Director Sub-Regional Unit, commented that "The feedback from participants is that the project has provided an excellent opportunity to learn about good practice and new initiatives in Scandinavia. We are expecting that Personal Advisers will be able to improve how they work with Young People as a result of the project"
